An Attempt at Poetry May 17, 2022

A car is speeding down the highway;

80km’hr, 100km/hr, 120km/hr.

The driver, young and careless;

Paying no mind to the increasing speed.

The car, old and beaten, wanting a rest from its owner.

A child is swinging on the playground swings;

High, low, high, low;

He goes.

The mum, young and careless;

Paying no mind to the high highs;

And the low lows.

The child; a child, squealing, seeking her attention.

A lover is buying flowers for his girlfriend.

500 for lilies, 700 for roses, 1500 for daisies.

Daisies, he chooses.

The Beloved, young and careless,

Naked in bed with another man,

Paying no mind to the lover,

And to the daisies he buys for her.

All of them,

A lover, a child, a car.

All of them,

A driver, a mum, a Beloved.

All of them in this game of Inattention.

Who will win?

Who will lose?

    I expected something appropriately tragic,.  This is 👌
